No spam for two months?

It’s been a busy summer helping dad and finally getting folks to work on my house to repair leaks. Once things started to wind down I headed out on a 5000 mile road trip over two months. The goal was to see new places and spend time with family and friends. Only packed one camera, my Fuji X100V. There were a few times I wish I brought my Sony and a few lenses, but a small camera with only one focal length is easy to carry and encourages creativity.

Starting off with one of my favorite shots and experiences. I spent an afternoon at the Grand Canyon trying to avoid the crowds. I Found this great spot just off the road where I could sit and watch this amazing thunder storm rain it’s way down the center of the canyon.

I stopped by Mono Lake on my way to Bodie. The Southern Tufa is a completely alien landscape. I could spend hours here taking pictures. It’s really hard to take a bad one.

Not sure how many pictures I’ve taken over the past two months, but it’s more than will fit in this blog post. How I ended up The World Famous Clown Hotel in Tonopah NV is beyond me. It’s places like this that remind me I should not drink, watch youtube, and plan trips. The only way to experience the hotel rooms is to watch this video. Across the parking lot from my room is the old Tonopah cemetery. The locals claim it’s haunted. No argument here. Haunted or not, the sunset from spectacular!

What’s new?

Ghost Towns 👻

I hit up Bodie, Rhyolite, and Calico Ghost Towns. Bodie was the most well preserved and largest ghost town I’ve been to. Definitely worth the trip. Rhyolite was not too bad. Very few buildings remain and it’s far from anything. Just before you reach Rhyolite, the Goldwell Open Air Museum is worth a stop. Isolated and creepy. If you’re in the Barstow CA area, stop by Calico. It’s basically a giant gift shop, but the mine tour and a walk around the old section of town make it worth the stop.

Inspired by Vivian Meier

I don’t like selfies or photos of me, but occasionally on a shoot, I catch my reflection, shadow, or just a picture of Murphy and me, and I’ll take the shot. Vivian Meier was an excellent photographer famous for capturing this style of selfie and was the inspiration for this gallery.

Taken while on a walk in Santa Fe. Murphy and I rented an AirBnB in this neighborhood in 2020 and enjoyed many wonderful walks at sunset. Caught this just past our old Casita.

Time Lapses

Most of the time lapses are from the Juliet balcony just outside my living room. Now that I’ve got a better system down for captures time lapses while on the road or hiking, I’ll post more.

Drink of the week, 2 month edition.

Just got back from my trip and was anxious to get to the ocean. About the time I was going to leave for Avila, I saw that Liquid Gravity just dropped a new Triple IPA “Party Slide”. Stopped by the brewery on my way to the beach, picked up some beer, and had an impromptu photo shoot at the beach. Nearly lost the can a few times, but worth it for the shots.

More Party Slide picts here 🍻.

What’s next?

I’ve been busy with SLO Life magazine, Oktoberfest SLO, and Crypt Keepers ball. I’ll share some picts from these events and hopefully a few good beach and beer shots. Also, as this post is running long, I’ll share a few more photos from my trip that didn’t make the cut this week.

Thanks for reading and see you in a week or two!
